O God, we acknowledge you today as Lord,
\nNot only of individuals, but of nations and governments.<\/p>\n

We thank you for the privilege\u00a0of voting that is ours–
\nan opportunity to influence the direction our country will take
\nby choosing those who will lead us.<\/p>\n

Lord, we thank you for your law of love and justice and grace
\nWhich our founding fathers acknowledged
\nand recognized as higher than any human law.
\nMay we seek to be true to your law above all else.<\/p>\n

We thank you for the opportunity this election\u00a0puts before us,
\nTo exercise our solemn duty to vote thoughtfully and prayerfully.
\nWe pray that we, your people, may be awakened\u00a0to spiritual reality on this day.
\nAwaken in us the knowledge that we are not called to flee this world
\nBut rather we are called to be a community of faith renewing the world.<\/p>\n

Awaken in us an awareness that the same hands we lift to you in prayer
\nAre the hands that fill out our voting ballot;
\nThat the same eyes that read your word
\nAre the eyes that read the names of the candidates,
\nAnd that we do not cease to be Christ-followers
\nWhen we enter the voting booth.<\/p>\n

Awaken in us a renewed commitment to justice and equity,
\nthat we may use our vote for the good of all God\u2019s children
\nand the betterment of the whole human community\u2014of which we are one small part.<\/p>\n

Awaken in us a renewed commitment to care for each other,
\nto steward the earth
\nand to share the many gifts you have bestowed upon us.<\/p>\n

May the way we vote today and the attitudes we carry with us into the voting booth
\nshow us to be citizens of your kingdom\u2014
\nPeople of hope in the midst of despair,
\nJoy in the midst of sorrow,
\nFaith in the midst of fear,
\nTruth in the midst of confusion,
\nGenerosity in the face of need.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed, we rejoice today
\nThat we are citizens of your kingdom.
\nWe pray that our spiritual citizenship will make us all the more committed
\nTo being faithful citizens of this earth.
\nAnd may we put our trust in you always.<\/p>\n

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord and for the sake of his love.<\/p>\n
